My first impression was one of absolute devotion to this capture! I love the composition and most of all the colours. It makes the picture soft, but still it is a strong reflection of the subject you wanted to capture. The skyline looks fabulous as well, and eventhough the picture was taken from quite a distance opposite the skyline you can still see detail in the buildings.
I can understand your choice of long exposure, it smoothens things up, and I do agree with you that ripples are usually a distraction. But, on the other hand and by looking at the picture more and more, I have to say I don't like the motion blur because it distracts me from the actual subject. My eyes keep going to the right hand side of the picture every time I look it up. I think I would have cloned them out or would have tried to find a different spot? I am not sure of course whether or not this is possible at all. Maybe you can't achieve the composition you wanted at a slightly different spot.
Anyway, it is a gorgeous picture which I truly like very much!
I am really sorry if the critique is not what you wanted, I am not that good in writing critiques, and my English is dodgy as well. I can only share my feelings about this picture and that is what I did
Keep up the fantastic work Dennis!
Cheers, Marion
